Let’s face it… our society is Star Crazy. They are hard to escape as the news loves to share every juicy detail about their every moves. In the US kids and young adults tend to look up to Hollywood stars more than political figures, teachers, and even parents for everything from clothes to behavior. I don’t know about you but this scares me to death because many of these Stars do not conduct themselves in a manner that I would want my children to emulate.
That being said, I have to applaud these A-listers when they surprise me and do something, well, normal. Yep, I’m speaking of the beautiful Beyonce. She was spotted on Saturday nursing her new baby girl, Blue Ivy, at a cafe in New York. This woman, who cannot be without a small village of paparazzi following her at all times, chose to nurse in public because her baby was hungry. Of course, the act of breastfeeding is not an unusual occurrence, but amidst all the ‘breastfeeding in public’ controversy lately, a Star nursing in a cafe is quite a statement. Most new moms are a bit apprehensive to nurse in public a first. It gets easier the more you do it but, try being a new mom with cameras on you everywhere you go!
I’m sure Beyonce wasn’t intentionally using her star-power to make a statement, rather she was just meeting her new daughter’s needs; however, I do hope that this sighting will have some positive impact on the young girls and boys who see this. Babies have to eat even when you are dining at a cafe.
