Snoring is one of the biggest reasons we aren’t sleeping. It isn’t just those of us who have to listen to the snores that have the problem. Sleepers who snore may have underlying problems. Experts agree that when you get to the problem of why people snore it can lead to stopping the snoring.

Reasons Why You Snore

  • Age — As you age the muscle tone in your neck decreases and that can cause your throat to narrow.
  • Physical Attributes — A narrow throat, cleft palate, nasal and sinus problems
  • Sleep Posture — sleeping flat on your back causes your throat to relax and block the airway
  • Habits — drinking alcohol, smoking, and some medicines can cause muscle relaxation that causes snoring.
Stop the Snoring
  1. Reposition yourself — Elevate the head of your bed, sleep on your side, use a different pillow to help keep your neck muscles from being constricted.
  2. Avoid eating heavy meals and caffeine close to bedtime.
  3. Talk to your doctor — If you snore loudly, are tired during the day, stop breathing or choke during sleep, you should see a doctor. You may have sleep apnea.
