Best Child Safety Hack of the Summer

Most of us know the panic that comes from losing sight of your child, even for 10 seconds. It can happen anywhere and when you least expect it. If your eyes are not continually glued on your child (which is not an easy task, especially with multiple children), and there are crowds or any other distractions, it’s easier for a child to slip away than we sometimes think.  With Summer upon us, and festivals, theme parks, day trips and family outings on our weekly agendas, the chances for losing a child are even higher. We would like to think it will never happen to us, but being prepared in case of such an emergency is vital.

Recently, the Clovis Police Department shared a great child safety hack that all parents should consider when heading out with their children in heavily populated public places.

All it takes is a fine point Sharpie and some liquid band-aid. Before venturing out with your family, make sure all your kids have your phone number written on their wrist or arm, and then cover it with liquid band aid to make sure it stays put. Sweat and water from activities can easily smear or wash marker away, but the liquid band aid will act as a protective barrier, keeping your phone number visible all day.

In addition to this tip, be sure to take a picture of your child in the morning with your phone to document what they’re wearing. This will help authorities greatly if ever needed. Also be sure that all children who are capable, know their/your full name, address and phone number.

It’s also important at the beginning of every family outing to designate a “meeting spot” in case anyone is separated from the group.  Children can take comfort in knowing that if they lose you, they can head over to the fountain, or main gate, etc to be reunited with you.

It only takes one time and a few seconds to lose track of a child. #BePrepared
