Mom Gets Letter for Oversharing About Her Child on FB

An Australian woman has been accused, by her own friends, for posting too much about her child on Facebook.  She received an anonymous letter telling her she needs to stop. “Not everyone is as interested as you are about what [the baby] does so give us all a break…every parent thinks their kid is the best ever. But we don’t ram it down everyone else’s neck!!!”

It happens, right? We all have that one friend or maybe three or four friends who can’t stop posting pictures and stories about their adorable prodigy. It certainly gets frustrating, but do they need to hear from friends that it is too much? Jade Ruthven, a 33-year-old first time mother, received this anonymous letter from her “friends,” via the Daily Mail:

Jade,

I have got together with a few of the girls and we are SO OVER your running commentary of your life and every single thing Addy does. Look, we all have kids that we are besotted with — guess what — every parent thinks their kid is the best kid ever. But we don’t ram it down everyone else’s neck!!! She wears a new outfit — well take a photo and send it PRIVATELY to the person who gave it to her — not to everyone!!!! She crawls off the mat — we don’t care!!!!! She’s 6 months old — BIG DEAL!!!! Stop and think — if every mother posted that crap about their kid — I’m sure you’d get over it pretty quickly.

We can’t wait for you get back to work — maybe you won’t have time to Facebook quite so much.

Addy is gorgeous and we all love her, but our kids are great too.

I guess you are just pissing a lot of people off with your ‘Addy this and Addy that’ — we all thought it might ease off after the first month, but it hasn’t.

Not everyone is as interested as you are about what Addy does so give us all a break.

We’re doing this to let you know what people think.

Is this bullying? Are these friends just trying to bring this new mom back to reality? We all know how it is when you have your first baby. You are enamored and the world revolves around your perfect child.  If you’ve been a parent longer than a minute you know that eventually you realize it isn’t all about you and your kid.

Should these friends have sent this letter? Do you know people who overshare about their kids on Facebook?

  1. If people don’t like it, don’t look. I’d deliberately post even more about my child, I have three and I post every day.. don’t like it – delete me. That’s your problem not mine!

  2. yes i think they were very polite with informing. and you cant imagine what it is like to have a handicapped child of whom you dont or cant brag about on media.show a picture once in a while and get it over with.
