This mom is amazing and shows you can reach your dreams, even when times are tough. Amanda Lamond was 18 and pregnant and had a goal to become a doctor. Many people told her she’d never be able to become a doctor.

“There were people that told me, ‘You won’t make it through medical school. There’s no way you can do that with a child,’ Lamond told ABC News. “And I said, ‘Why can’t I have my baby and still become a doctor?'”

She lived with her parents, stayed in school and found financial support through CalWORKS, a welfare program that gives cash aid to struggling families. It allowed her to go to school full time and work part time. She was valedictorian of her college class, finished medical school and will be the head emergency room doctor at Palomar Medical Center. During this time she married and had two more children.

“No matter what people tell you,” Lamond told ABC News, “you can make your dreams come true.”

Do you know women who have been able to achieve their dreams despite people saying they couldn’t?
