Resurrection Rolls

This is an Easter tradition I have been doing with my family for years now.  Not only are these rolls delicious, I love the symbolism behind them as we celebrate Easter.   Making them with your children is fun, and also a great teaching opportunity as you discuss the death and resurrection of Christ.

When Christ died, they prepared His body with oils and spices before wrapping Him and laying Him in the tomb.  For this recipe, you take a marshmallow and dip it in melted butter and then roll it in cinnamon sugar (which represents the oils and spices). You then place the marshmallow in the “tomb”, which is crescent roll dough in this case.  The “miracle” of the recipe happens while baking – the marshmallow actually disappears (melts)!  When you bite into the roll, there is an empty place where the marshmallow use to be, which symbolizes Christ’s triumph over death.   My kids never tire of this recipe and lesson, and they look forward to “Resurrection Rolls” every year now!

2 cans of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls

Half a stick of butter

16 regular sized marshmallows

4 tbsp cinnamon sugar

What to do:

Microwave the butter in a small bowl until melted.  Dip marshmallow in melted butter and then roll in cinnamon sugar mixture.  Place marshmallow in the center of dough triangle and then wrap the marshmallow completely making a “ball” and making sure all edges are completely sealed.  If any edges aren’t sealed, the marshmallow will leak during baking and make a sticky mess!   Complete all rolls, place on a non stick baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees until lightly golden brown.
