Mom meetings take many forms: play dates, book clubs, Bunco, paint and wine nights, etc. We women are serious about making our free time justifiable.  If we’re learning something or making a little money then it is OK to take an hour or two away from our family every week or two.  This brings us to cookbook clubs, the newest way for moms to get together, eat good food, and regain our sanity.

According to Serious Eats, “The idea behind Cookbook Club is a simple one—a group of friends all make recipes from the same book and gather to share the results, a crowdsourced feast.” Tara Austin Weaver writes about her first time being part of a cookbook club.  She only new one person, but felt welcomed and comfortable.  You make one dish and have the opportunity to try many more.  Weaver said she enjoyed the variety of dishes and the opportunity to try new and different things.

“None of us are professional cooks. We like food, we’re a little adventurous, but most of all, we’re willing to try.” Isn’t this what many moms would say? We want adventure, we want to try new things, and this is one experience that can give moms the chance to meet new people, try new things, and step out of her comfort zone.

Weaver offers tips on how to start your own cooking club. Her group meets every other month and there are about 20 members.  Most of the interaction is online in order to decide what book is next and where and how the next club will meet.  She emphasizes that this is fun and should be an enjoyable experience.
