Facebook is working on technology that would make their site a social network for children under 13-years-old. They are working to connect children’s accounts to their parents’ accounts. One aspect would be that parents can decide whom their kids can “friend” and what applications they can use.

There are questions about privacy issues and many parents want their kids to be safe online. Facebook and its partners would charge for games and apps and other entertainment the kids would access.

There has always been controversy about kids who lie about their age to get Facebook accounts. If Facebook can make a way for under 13 kids to access the network it would help Facebook with the issues they face concerning these fraudulant accounts.

This is one of those issues that parents need to stay involved in when it comes to their kids. Does your child have a Facebook account? Are they 12-years-old or under? Should parents be able to monitor kids’ Facebook accounts and choose their friends and apps?
