How To Be a Good Parent

Most parents love their kids more than life itself.  We would do anything to make sure they are happy and safe.  We sacrifice so much for their own happiness, and somehow in the process it brings us incredible joy as well. It’s a beautiful reciprocal relationship with lots of ups and downs, trials and triumphs, and most of us wouldn’t change it for the world.

One recent photograph amazingly emulates all of these feelings wrapped up in to one moment, and it’s beautiful.  If you’re a parent, you get it the moment you lay eyes on the image.

The photo was posted to Reddit by Eumine Choi. He talks about the photo and the day he saw the father and son to Yahoo Parenting.

“I was leaving work and it was pouring rain and I opened my umbrella and looked up and there was the dad and the son walking,” he said. “I was about to cross the street and I just wanted to take a picture to show my friends later that night. I wanted them to see what I witnessed.”

“The dad was carrying a leather briefcase and some food, and instead of worrying about himself, he gave the umbrella to his son,” he added. “Actually, his son wasn’t even holding it; the dad was holding it for him, and only certain people would think to do that.”

The reason the photo seems to be resonating with so many people is because it’s a visual reminder of the pure love and sacrifice a parent willingly gives their child.  The father is soaking wet, but without a second thought he cares more for his son’s well being and comfort. It’s a testament of love caught in a single moment that captures in essence, what we as parents do and feel every day.
